Washington: President Bush reiterated his threat to "veto any funding legislation that includes a withdrawal timeline," which would include the war funding bill likely to be approved by the Senate, CNN.com reports.
Iraq: The death toll from a shooting rampage by Shiite militants and police has risen to at least 60 people killed in retaliation for "massive truck bombings in Tal Afar" Tuesday, AP reports. Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki told U.K. Ambassador to Iraq Dominic Asquith "he would do his best to help reach a peaceful resolution to the crisis over 15 British sailors and marines detained by Iran," Reuters reports.
Economy: "Despite heightened risks from the contraction in housing and the slump in manufacturing, the U.S. economy will most likely achieve moderate growth this year with gradually slowing inflation, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said," MarketWatch reports. Nation: "About 100 migrants, apparently from Haiti, were being treated for dehydration," and at least one died, "after their dilapidated, overloaded sailboat reached the Florida shore, officials said," AP reports.
World: "Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai was briefly detained" but not arrested "by police at his party headquarters," and "10 other activists were arrested... on suspicion of being connected with a spate of petrol bombings," Reuters reports.
