Still No Word On BBC Journo's Fate
A day after a previously unknown group claimed to have killed BBC reporter Alan Johnston, there is still no confirmation of the journalist's fate. Palestinian authorties believe Johnston was kidnapped by Palestinian militants on March 12.
Johnston's family is pleading with Gazans for any information about the 44-year-old journalist, and reporters in Gaza and Lebanon are holding rallies demanding that Johnston be released. Should the Tawhid and Jihad Brigades' claim turn out to be true, it would be the first high-profile abduction-slaying of a Western journalist in Gaza. Kidnappings are common in the region, but abductees are usually released within days.
BBC News, the International Herald Tribune and the London Guardian are monitoring the story.
