News Roundup: Supplemental Vote, Lebanon Weapons, New WTC Victim
Congress. The House approved (subscription) the rule for floor debate on the Iraq and Afghanistan war spending bill, setting up final approval from both the House and Senate later today.
Mideast. The United States announced today it would ship ammunition to the Lebanese army, which has been battling the militant group Fatah al-Islam for several days.
Nation. Nearly six years after the 9/11 attacks, a new name has been added to the list of victims: Felicia Dunn-Jones, an attorney who died of lung disease five months after inhaling dust from the World Trade Center collapse.
Iran. In the wake of yesterday's U.N. watchdog report on Iran's newly expanded nuclear program, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad rejected the idea that his country would pause even briefly in developing nuclear technology. "The enemy wants Iran to surrender so it won't have any say in the world,'' he said.
World. A coal mine in Siberia exploded today, killing 38 people. It's the second such explosion in the region in the last few months.
