Earlybird Roundup: SCOTUS, FBI Jet, Egyptian Elections
Courts. In addition to the enemy combatant case, the Supreme Court yesterday also addressed health workers, crack cocaine sentences, age discrimination and a class-action suit against Philip Morris.
Washington. FBI Director Robert Mueller is being criticized for using a $40 million Pentagon jet -- originally justified to Congress as necessary for counterterrorism -- for routine trips.
Congress. House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., issued a warning on earmarks yesterday, saying that he will scratch them entirely if GOP leaders "demagogue" the issue.
World. Elections in Egypt turned violent yesterday, when supporters of the ruling party and the opposition Muslim Brotherhood clashed. One person was killed and more than 400 Brotherhood members were arrested.
Nation. Three members of the Texas National Guard have been charged with human smuggling after one was caught driving a van with 24 illegal immigrants in the back.
