Earlybird Roundup: Senate All-Nighter, Brazil Plane Crash

Congress. Senate Democrats pulled an all-nighter for a long debate over the Iraq war, but Republicans dismissed the effort last night as theatrics -- including many who have already distanced themselves from President Bush's stance on the war.

Administration. A House committee is investigating White House drug czar John Walters, who is accused of politicizing his office and taking taxpayer-financed trips to stump for candidates in the 2006 election cycle.

Iraq. The military announced the capture of the top leader of al-Qaida in Iraq.

Washington. Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson, who resigned yesterday, gave the Washington Post more details on his decision.

World. Nearly 200 people are feared dead after a plane crash at Brazil's busiest airport.
