Earlybird Roundup: Hurricane Felix, Surge Assessments, Climate Change Pact

World. Hurricane Felix slammed into the Central American coast as a Category 5 storm this morning.

Iran. Haleh Esfandiari, an American scholar imprisoned in Iran for four months on charges of espionage and fomenting a revolution, was released and reunited with her family in Austria.

Iraq. The Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post offer assessments of the troop surge.

Environment. President Bush and Australian Prime Minister John Howard plan to sign a climate change pact at an APEC summit this week.

Pakistan. More than 20 people were killed in Pakistan today, when two explosions rocked an army bus and a commercial district near Islamabad.
