Earlybird Roundup: Defense Bill, Iran, U.K. Troop Cut

Congress. The Senate passed the FY08 defense spending bill without including language that would have mandated a withdrawal from Iraq.

Administration. President Bush wants "a diplomatic solution that we can use to solve the Iranian problem," a White House spokeswoman said yesterday.

Iraq. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced during a visit to Baghdad that the U.K. would pull 1,000 troops out of Iraq by the end of the year.

World. South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun took a symbolic step across his country's border with North Korea today and was greeted by North Korean leader Kim Jong Il at the start of a summit in Pyongyang.

Pakistan. All 85 opposition leaders in Pakistan's parliament resigned today in protest of Gen. Pervez Musharraf's bid for re-election.
