Earlybird Roundup: Pocket Veto, Libyan Visit, Pakistan Steps

Congress. Legislators and President Bush could be embarking on a constitutional disagreement about whether he can use a pocket veto on the defense authorization bill.

Administration. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will host Libya's foreign minister in Washington today, in the first visit from that country's top diplomat since 1972.

Washington. Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., agreed to pay a $1,000 fine to the FEC for failing to disclose legal bills connected to the investigation of former Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla.

Iraq. The U.S. military is reporting a drop in weapons, training and other support coming across the border from Iran.

Pakistan. The Bush administration is trying to convince the Pakistani government to take steps that would ensure a fair election. Meanwhile, Pakistan has asked Scotland Yard to assist in the probe of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto's death.
